Spring Formal Dance

Our church hosted a Spring Formal for teens ages 14-18.   

I got to help my friends Patty, Carrie, and Rachel with the decorations.

So, come on in, welcome to the Rustic Barn.....

Guests are greeted with our our welcome sign. 

Used the technique {here} to paint lettering on rough fence wood.  I cut this fun arrow out of the fence wood and painted a layer of turquoise and then white. Sanded and stained all the wood.  I found this super cute milk can in Arkansas. Add the sign and fresh flowers to the milk can for this fun entrance sign!

   There was a coat rack at the entrance that we wanted to hide.  I sewed up a simple burlap curtain which hangs on a spring rod. 

Finished off the curtain with these bows of burlap, lace, jute and chocolate brown satin.

There were small metal hooks in the walls on each side of the gym.  We ran wire across and then added white LED Christmas lights. 

 Patty designed the banner and Rachel's daughter cut out all the triangle pieces for service hours.  They were zig-zag stitched to jute. The paper pack was "Bramble Rose".  It fit perfectly with the rustic, shabby chic theme and  dance colors of turquoise, coral and burlap. 

Dinner tables had strips of burlap runners with fringed edges.

 We collected used spaghetti jars (there are some cute jars out there) for our baby's breath.  Patty made coral silk roses with cut burlap and pearls to go around the jars. 

 Our friend Sam made all these beautiful tissue flowers. 

 Carrie knew of some trees that were being cut down and had them cut up the trunk into about  3" thick rounds for the center of the tables.  Fabulous! The centerpiece was finished off with electric tea lights. 

Here is one of the water tables.  We put a clear dispenser with spigot on each side of this table.  Do these table runners look familiar?  

 Love the center piece on the food table.  

After dinner and dessert, they'll put out bowels with dipping scoops for snacks, candy and don't forget mints!

 Patty made fabric banners for the side walls and across the stage out of fabric triangles sewn to jute. 

                

 

Fresh flowers in big and small mason jars throughout the room.  Baby's breath, pink hypericum, double stock, and the cutest ornamental cabbages. 

Here is the stage and table for the DJ and equipment.  

More lights in jars, on ladders and electric candles in all the lanterns.  They really sparkled when the lights were dimmed at the dance.  

While picking  up the wood rounds, Carrie came across this old stump.  Perfect!

In the back of the room, we set up an area for pictures.  A photographer friend took pictures for the first few hours of the dance. He'll email the photos to the kids that night!  (Ready to go up on their favorite social media sites!) 

Photo props included a turquoise bench from Krystal and her husband. They also made these large, chunky frames that the kids can hold up.  Love these frames!

I made some wooden mustaches and other accessories for some fun pictures.  

A lot of planning, creative minds and hard work made this a night to remember.  

I think the ceiling is one of my favorite parts-- that pulls everything together.
