Hidden TV

When moving into our home, my husband and I debated whether or not we needed another TV. I finally agreed to a TV as long as he could come up with a way to hide it. I think he came up with a pretty great idea if I do say so. Here's what he did:

1. Look through your photos and find a picture that you like and want to enlarge. My husband took the below photo in Copenhagen. I love the photo's perspective along with its colors. The photo goes along perfectly with our room's colors: reds, yellows and tan.

2. Turn your photo into a canvas print by having it developed at either Costco or Sam's Club. Be sure you enlarge your photo to a canvas size that will cover your TV. For example, our TV measures 20.5 inches (height) x 34.5 inches (width). We developed our canvas print to 24 inches (height) 36 inches (width).

3. Assemble the back so you can hang your canvas print over your TV when not in use. You will need: two over the door hooks, a strip of basal wood, strong glue (We used Gorilla glue.), sticky felt, cotton cloth and rubber bumpers.

First, cut the hook. You will cut off the hook part (where you hang items from) so you are left with the over-the-door portion of the hook. Next, glue the basal wood to the picture and glue the over-the-door portion of the hook to the basal wood.  You'll then want to cover the hooks with felt. For the parts that will contact the TV screen, we covered them with blue cotton cloth to prevent scratching. Finally, add rubber bumpers to the two bottom corners of the canvas to again protect your TV from scratches.

Here's how it looks once hung. For the most part, people don't even notice there's a TV behind the photo. Usually, they comment on the photo and then when we make the grand TV reveal, they are genuinely surprised. Some friends have even asked to copy the idea.

When not watching TV, the photo is always up. Out of sight, out of mind!

  2. Thank you! I'm happy you like the idea. Unfortunately, I didn't accompany my husband on this trip. So, Copenhagen is on my list too!
