This is a great warm drink to have on hand for a cold winter day at home
or for a group get together.
My husband recently took the kids on a winter hike and we had some warm winter wassail,
hot bread and soup waiting at home upon their return.
WASSAIL
2 cups water
3/4 cup sugar
1 cinnamon stick
4 whole cloves
4 allspice berries
1/2" piece of ginger
64 oz apple juice
1 cup pineapple juice
1 lemon
In a large pot put the water. sugar, cinnamon stick, cloves, allspice and a 1/2 inch piece of ginger with the outside removed. Bring this to a boil. Turn off heat and let it sit for 1 to 2 hours with a lid on pot.
Scoop out the ginger, allspice and cloves (leave in cinnamon stick) Add the apple and pineapple juices. Take your fresh lemon and squeeze the juice from it into the pot.
Turn on to medium heat until liquid is warm enough to drink.
