Paper Stocking- A Fun Way to Gift Wrap!

Make your gift wrapping or party favors fun
by putting your gifts inside a sewn stocking
or other shape.
Mailing out presents for those not able to join us for Christmas.
I didn't want them to miss getting a stocking,
so created one filled with goodies for them!

Supplies you'll need:
brown wrapping paper or craft paper
pencil, scissors, sharpies
sewing machine and red thread
poster board, painters tape

First make a stocking pattern.
I laid out the items I wanted to put in the stocking on some posterboard,
to help me see what size I'd need.
Draw out a stocking shape around these items.
Leave extra room on the edges to allow for a seam.
Cut out your template.

Place your pattern on two pieces of craft paper.
If your craft paper has "lines or images" on one side,
place those "wrong sides" together and lay your pattern on top.
I'm using this paper.
Trace with a pencil (less noticeable after sewn)
 and cut.

Since your paper has been on a roll,
it might curl up.
To hold the sides together,
lightly press painters' tape on the edges.

Sew around your stocking,
carefully peeling off the tape as you go.
Do not sew over the tape!
Leave the top open.
1/4" seam on the basting or widest stich setting.
After sewn, you can trim up any edges to make the seam look uniform.

These are turning out so cute!
I'm making a few extra
to give to some missionaries serving in our area far from home.

Thought it would be fun to add names on the stockings
I'm using Sharpee pens,
white wide tip paint pen, regular red and thin tipped black.

These would be great as party favors
or next to place settings.
Just make a smaller stocking
and fill with goodies.
You can get creative and cut out different shapes.
I'm thinking of doing a small star out of gold wrapping paper
for Christmas Eve dinner.

"Filling their stockings with care,
in hopes that St. Nicolas soon would be there"!

Ideas to fill your stockings:
gift cards in small boxes
candy
mini candy canes
hair products
box of earrings
mini drawing pad, watercolor paints
golf tees
socks
silk scarf
car shammies, air fresheners
hand sanitizer, small lotion, lip gloss
playing cards
yo-yo
Lego figures

After you fill the stocking,
sew across the top,
so everything is secure inside.

Bring a little extra magic to your holidays with this special way to wrap!
