Citrus & Herb Flavored Sea Salt

Flavored salts are so versatile and a great gift for friends.
Use them as a finishing salt to add on top of a dish, bread or cookies.
Or incorporate during the cooking process to intensify dishes,
use in marinades or as a meat rub.
Flavored salts elevate your cooking.
And you can make your own!
There are all kinds of herb combinations.
We're making a yummy salt using citrus- lemons and oranges.
Plus, some rosemary and thyme.

Ingredients you'll need:
3.5 cups sea salt
3 Tbsp fresh rosemary
1 Tbsp dried thyme
2 oranges-zest and juice of 1/2 of an orange
3 lemons- zest and juice of 1 lemon

Add all your ingredients to a bowl and mix.

Preheat your oven to 225 degrees.
Spread the salt mixture on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet.

Because of the juice, zest and fresh rosemary,
we'll dry out the mixture in a low temp oven.

Bake for 25 minutes.
Halfway through, stir around the salt.

Let cool for an hour.
Break up any clumps.

Now the fun- find some cute, small glass jars.
You can use canning jars.
I found these bale lid (metal latch to close) jars
with rubber ring (provides a tighter closure).

[clear jars from Target and ric-rack design from IKEA]

Print off our flavored SEA SALT label {here}
Print on card stock and punch out with a 1.5" circle punch.
I used my sticker maker to add adhesive to the back.
(you could use double sided tape)
Put your label on the jar lid.

These are the perfect little gifts!
Bundle them in a cello bag with a hot pad and little wood spoon.
Or add a jar with a baguette from a bakery and a small bottle of olive oil.

You're friends and family with love getting a jar.
Bon appetite!
