Quilt Block of the Month (February)

Couldn't resist learning how to make a heart block for February.
It might look complicated, but step by step,
we can do this!

You'll need 1/4 yard of fabric for the heart and 1/4 yard of fabric for the background.
Go to our January block post for other sewing tools you'll need {here}

Cut your fabric for the heart- 2 pieces at 4.5"x8.5" rectangles
2 background pieces at 4.5" squares
4 background pieces at 1.5" squares

With a pen, draw a diagonal line on the back side of your 4.5" squares

With right sides together,
place those background squares on the heart fabric rectangles as shown above.
Sew along the lines.

Trim a 1/4" seam.

Iron your seam towards the colored fabric on back and iron down on front.

You'll have the bottom section of your heart completed.

Draw diagonals on your 4 little squares.

Place them at the top corners of your heart pieces as shown above.
Make sure diagonal are pointing to the middle of the heart piece.
Pin down and sew along the lines.

Trim a 1/4" seam.

Iron the seams on the back side toward the middle.
Then iron the front.

Last step,
Place right sides together and sew your 2 halves of the heart together at the middle.
Press your seam on the back to the side and iron on front.
Beautiful!

These hearts are so cute.
It would be fun to make a whole quilt just with heart blocks.
(save that idea for a future project!)
Love is in the air in February!
