November's block is the maple leaf.
Love this design and the simplicity.
Previous months have already taught us how
to make a square with half of one fabric and half another.
The stem square is a new pattern, but you've got this!
(find all 12 months of quilt block patterns {here})
You'll need 2 fabrics 1/4 yard each.
Choose a fabric for the background and one for the leaf.
In the background fabric cut:
3 squares: 3 3/4" x 3 3/4"
1 square: 3 1/4" x 3 1/4"
In the leaf fabric cut:
3 squares: 3 1/4" x 3 1/4"
2 squares: 3 3/4" x 3 3/4"
1 strip: 1" x 5"
Draw a diagonal line on the back of 2 of the background 3 3/4" x 3 3/4" squares.
Place right sides together on top of the 2 leaf squares of the same size.
Sew 1/4" on either side of the diagonal line.
Cut down the diagonal.
Press open.
You'll have 4 squares with the leaf and background fabric on each side.
Take your 1 background square that is 3 1/4" x 3 1/4".
Cut in half along the diagonal.
Take the strip of leaf fabric
and sew it along each side of that cut. Iron.
Lay one of the squares with half background/half leaf fabric
on top of your stem square.
Trim the stem square to match the size.
Lay out all your squares in this pattern:
Sew the top 3 together, middle 3 together and then bottom 3 together.
Iron. Next, sew these 3 strips together
to complete the block.
Trim about 1/4" off each side to square the block up and to get an 8" x 8 " finished block.
