Pinwheel Block-Quilt Block of the Month- March

Time for this month's quilt block pattern.
Where we live,
March is always windy.
That along with the fact that pinwheels make
me think of spring,
makes our pinwheel design perfect for March.

You'll need 1/4" yards of 2 fabric colors.
Cut two 5" squares out of each color.

On the back of your two darker colored pieces,
draw a diagonal line with a pen.

Put your dark colored piece with the drawn line
on top of a square of the other fabric, right sides together.
Sew 1/4" from either side of your drawn line.
You'll have two lines of stitching with the drawn line down the middle.

Cut down the drawn line.
You'll have two sets of 2 triangles that are stitched on the long edge.

Open these up and iron your seams on the back towards the darker fabric.

Flip it over and iron on the top.
You can see that now you have 4 squares.

Trim off the little fabric sticking our in the corners
to make a perfect square.

Lay out the 4 squares into your pin wheel design.
Make sure to do this step to make sure your squares are turned
and alternating in a way to make your pinwheel.

Sew the two top squares together,
connecting them along middles edges.
Then sew the bottom two squares together.
Like this:

Next, sew the top and bottom pieces together to complete your block.

How fun is that pinwheel!
Trim along the 4 sides of your block
to make the finished block square 8" x 8".
(you might need to trim 1/8" to 1/4" off the edges)

Love this little pinwheel design!

See you next month!
