For your next hauntingly good party or
just to have some creepy snacks on display for your little goblins,
make a vintage jar
with a spooky label and jar topper.
First you'll just need an empty jar.
Choose shape and size that will fit your treats.
Wash and dry your jars/lids and remove the label.
You'll need some creepy critters or wood finials for the lid toppers.
I picked up a few things at the dollar store.
Found some of the treats to go inside too.
I already had a mini plastic skull and the skinny finial.
Spray your lid and critter topper with a primer.
After it dries, spray with a black spray paint.
Here's what I'm using:
I like sitting the lids and critters on cups.
Just makes it easier to spray the sides.
Primer first.
Then spray paint. You want to use quick, short sprays of the paint.
Then it won't pool up in one area.
I thought it would be cool to add some black glitter to the spider body.
Put another coat of black on the body and immediately sprinkle your glitter on.
Spray the body with a clear sealer, just to help that glitter stick.
Glue your creepy crawlers on the lids with a strong glue like
Gorilla Glue, Loctite or E6000.
(note: some of these glues expand as they dry, so you don't need much!)
Let dry over night.
These are looking good!
Add a label to identify your ghoulish treats!
I found this ART-C paper pack at Hobby Lobby.
The paper looks old and water stained-- perfect.
To design the labels, I used the Graphics Fairy, Chalkboard Printable Labels,
making them into the labels for Bat Wings, Spider Legs, Vampire Teeth and Danger.
You can print your own by clicking here:
Just cut them out and adhere to the jar with rubber cement or
I used my Xyron Sticker Maker. It's a manual sticker maker, easy to use- I love it!
Nice!
The Bat Wings are chocolate wafers cut in half.
The skull bottle holds caramel chocolate candy corns.
They look like rotting vampire teeth, don't they?!
I tied a little black tulle around the neck of that jar.
The spider legs are Root Beer flavored licorice. (Not a fan of black licorice!)
I had this old BBQ sauce bottle with little lid, perfect for the wood finial.
Thought it would make some great witch tonic.
Had some extra Witch Tonic labels from
the fun candy & cider jar gifts we made.
Just add some food coloring to water for display
or a colorful drink for a party.
These jars are a scream!
Love, love how these turned out.
Have fun making your own!
These are super fun. My friend and I are hosting a Halloween event and I am creating some labels. I never thought about the fun toppers though. Thanks for the inspiration.
